This folder contains correspondence, reports, and other documents relating to the organization and operation of Edison illuminating companies. Included are documents pertaining to the annual meeting of the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies and to the construction of a central station for the Edison Electric Light Co. of Philadelphia. There is also a profit-and loss-statement for local Edison illuminating companies. Among the correspondents are Edward H. Johnson, president of the Edison Electric Light Co.; W. Preston Hix, the company's general agent; and William D. Marks, supervising engineer and general manager of the Edison Electric Light Co. of Philadelphia. Some of the documents have been damaged by water.
Approximately 80 percent of the documents have been selected. The following categories of documents have not been selected: meeting announcements of the Edison Electric Light Co. of New York; other routine business correspondence, including requests by Edison illuminating companies for zinc sulfate solution; duplicate copies of selected documents; documents that duplicate information in selected material.
