This folder contains correspondence from or about employees and former or prospective employees. There are also letters of recommendation in support of individuals seeking employment. Much of the correspondence relates to employment requests for the West Orange laboratory or various Edison companies. Also included are documents pertaining to the illness of James Russell, a private detective employed by Edison, and items regarding the death of Thomas Butler, an official in several Edison companies.
Approximately 20 percent of the documents have been selected. Routine letters without a significant reply have not been selected. Also not selected is a series of responses to advertisements placed in various trade journals seeking a replacement for George F. Ballou, superintendent of the Edison Phonograph Works.
