This notebook covers the period March-July 1880. Most of the entries are by Francis Upton. There are also occasional entries by Charles Batchelor and probably by Francis Jehl and Charles P. Mott. Most of the book consists of notes, calculations, and drawings relating to generators and motors, along with tests of these machines conducted with dynamometers, electrometers, and calorimeters. There are also photometer tests of lamps, notes on fuses, and a list of lamps for the steamship Columbia. The label on the front cover is marked "Upton." The book contains 282 numbered pages.
