Two items from 1884 have been selected. The first is a bill from Charles W. Compton listing funeral expenses for Mary Stilwell Edison, who died on August 9. The expenses totaled $877.45, including $425 for a "best quality" casket. The second item is a letter from Edison's secretary, Samuel Insull, to Francis R. Upton of the Edison Lamp Co. regarding the lighting of Koster & Bial's Concert Hall in New York City. Courtesy of Thomas Edison National Historical Park.
