This folder contains correspondence and other documents relating to the commercial introduction of the electric light and to technical aspects of electric lighting and power, such as the design of lamps and generators and the materials to be used as filaments. Included also are a series of letters to sewing machine manufacturers, requesting machines to be used in developing an electric motor, and correspondence regarding the installation of electric lights on the Jeannette, a ship being outfitted for the New York Herald's arctic expedition. Correspondence and other documents pertaining to Edison's search for a supply of platinum to be used in his lamp can be found in D-79-28 (Mining -- Platinum Search).
