[The clippings discussed in the second paragraph were recently added to the digital edition and are not part of the archival collections at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park.]
This folder contains correspondence and other documents by and about Edison's family. Included are numerous items relating to the death of Edison's wife, Mary Stilwell Edison. All of the documents have been selected.
Four clippings from the New York World were added in June 2009. "In the Wizard's Home," an article by Olive Harper that appeared two months before Mary Edison's death, contains a detailed description of the Edison family residence at 25 Gramercy Park in New York City. Also included is a lengthy interview with Mary Edison in which she discusses her relationship with her husband and provides a detailed account of their first meeting and courtship. Another clipping, "Sorrow at Menlo Park," discusses the illness and death of Mary Edison and provides an account of her courtship and marriage similar to Olive Harper's article. Although there is no byline, it is likely that Harper wrote this article as well. There are also brief notices of the death of Mary Edison on August 9, 1884 and her funeral on August 12. A more detailed account of her funeral from the Newark Morning Register was added in April 2010. Courtesy of Thomas Edison National Historical Park.
