These books contain records of experimental and operating costs, Edison's royalties and investments, and other personal and business accounts. There is material relating to Edison companies, laboratory suppliers, and various business operations. Also included are entries pertaining to Ft. Myers and Glenmont.
Fifteen books containing experimental accounts, records of royalties, and details of operating expenses have been selected. Included are three ledgers of summary accounts, four journals detailing daily transactions, seven books summarizing labor and other expenses, and an investment ledger recording stocks, bonds, and mortgages.
The following items have not been selected: eight receiving books (1888-1898) listing items received, their costs, and company of origin; seven cash books (1887-1901); two subledgers (1890-1896) of accounts payable and receivable; three books (1888-1896) containing abstracts of materials and lists of suppliers; and three books (1890-1894) relating to distribution of materials. Also not selected is a set of eighteen invoice books (1882-1901) consisting of letterpress copies of invoices pertaining to work done at the New York and West Orange laboratories.
